Veterans of Foreign Wars Ship 1774

Important By law issues that need to be addressed.

Per Section 202 of the VFW Congressional Charter By-Laws and Manual of Procedure, By-Laws adopted by a Post, District, etc., shall not conflict with the VFW By-Laws and Manual of Procedure [nor should they be duplicative). The Ship 1774 By-Laws were adopted 9 Jan 1995. They are out of date and in some cases, do conflict with VFW By-Laws. Accordingly, new By-Laws for Ship 1774 have been written and provided below for your review. Questions should be brought to the July meeting (13 July) which will officially start the review period so the final version can be voted at the August meeting. A change was made to the By-Laws on 11 July 2010 as a result of recommendations that adds the Ladies Auxiliary as a voting member of the House Committee.

The House Committee Policies and Procedures was presented to the House Committee on 10 July and they voted for the Policies and Procedures to be forwarded to the membership for review at the 13 July 2010 meeting and approval at the 9 August meeting along with the By-Laws.

House Committee Policies and Procedures do not currently exist. Having them written should provide for consistency of actions and the roles of the members properly established.
Please print these out for discussion at the July Meeting
