Membership with Ship 1774 allows entry to all VFW Posts worldwide.

The Charter is located, and all meetings are held, at the American Legion facility located at 8118 University Ave., La Mesa; “The La Mesa Veterans Club.”

Eligibility
An individual is eligible for membership in the corporation only if the individual served honorably as a member of the Armed Forces of the United States –

  • In a foreign war, insurrection, or expedition in service that –
    • Has been recognized as campaign-medal service; and
    • Is governed by the authorization of the award of a campaign badge by the United States Government;
  • On the Korean peninsula or in territorial waters for at least 30 consecutive days, or a total of 60 days, after 30 Jun 1949; or
  • In an area which entitled the individual to receive special pay for duty subject to hostile fire or imminent danger under Section 310 of Title 37.

Persons in the armed forces of the United States shall become eligible for membership immediately upon arrival on hostile soil, in hostile waters or the airspace above in the performance of service qualifying such persons for membership.
Members are active duty, Reserve, National Guard, and veterans.

Proof of service to establish eligibility for membership rests with the applicant.

about VFW Membership

VFW Ship 1774 membership is $45.00 per year; $60.00 per year eff 1 Jul 2022.

Membership in a local Post supports the local organization and programs.
VFW Members-at-large support the National organization and NO funds flow to local Posts.

Life Membership is age based and once paid (monthly payments are possible) the member will no longer be required to pay dues, even when transferring to another Post.

NOTE: Members whose applications are mailed or digitally sent will soon receive a temporary receipt allowing access to VFW Ship 1774 and all other VFW Posts after the payment of dues (yearly or Life Membership). In California, a VFW member can utilize any Veterans Club in the State.
